George Strait was right when he sang a father's love is without end...

Coffee Break

With Pops!

Sawyer is wondering what is in that mug that Pops is always carrying around with him?!

And if you look close Sawyer is smiling because as they compare tummies, he sees that Pop's tummy is bigger than his!

A little special "Pops" time before Sawyer moves to Austin! :-( (A post for another day!)

"For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together." Colossions 1:16-17

Happy 35th Anniversary

To My Wonderful Husband! I Love You!

On June 14, 1975, we were married at the old First Baptist Church in downtown Houston. Yes, we look like babies and to some degree we were. We were high school sweethearts that were marrying at the tender age of twenty. We were both working full time and attending the University of Houston.

We were married by our pastor, Dr. John Bisagno. Brother John had just said something funny and sadly, I can't remember what it was but the photographer caught the results!

We were attended to in our wedding by family and friends. The guys were Tony's two high school friends, his new brother-in-law and his favorite and only brother. The girls were my sweet sister, my best friend, my little sis from drill team, and my new sister-in-law. They all wore their favorite colors which meant ours was a rainbow wedding. (Rainbow as in the one the Lord placed in the sky as a promise to Noah and all future generations!) The different colors were brought together by the variety of summer flowers worn in their hair and found in their bouquets.

The house party was made up of three sweet friends from high school and three of our closest cousins. They were all kind enough to make dresses to wear for the wedding. Pretty in pink!

It was a typical Southern Baptist Church wedding and reception with nothing but wedding cake, grooms cake, punch, coffee, nuts and mints! After the reception, we left for a weekend honeymoon at the Warwick Hotel (now known as the Hotel ZaZa) in the Museum District! I guess that was when our age or lack of said really stood out because the hotel was so nice that we hated to leave the room because we were never sure who we needed to tip! ;-)

Thirty-five years later I love my husband more than the day I married him and I pray that our marriage will speak to all the world of the power and indestructible joy of living in obedience to the Word of God.

To celebrate we have planned a wonderful trip to Europe where we will experience the reality of scripture as we trace the Apostle Paul's second missionary trip as he delivered the gospel from Philippi to Ephesus. We will be traveling with the author and international Bible teach Kay Arthur and we are looking forward to a life-changing experience!

Talking with the Animals

Dr. Dolittle has nothing on Sawyer...

and Sawyer is only 2 1/2 months old!

If we could talk to the animals, just imagine it
Chatting to a chimp in chimpanzee
Imagine talking to a tiger, chatting to a cheetah
What a neat achievement that would be.

If we could talk to the animals, learn their languages
Maybe take an animal degree.
We'd study elephant and eagle, buffalo and beagle,
Alligator, guinea pig, and flea.

We would converse in polar bear and python,
And we could curse in fluent kangaroo.
If people asked us, can you speak in rhinoceros,
We'd say, "Of courserous, can't you?"

If we could talk to the animals, learn their languages
Think of all the things we could discuss
If we could walk with the animals, talk with the animals,
Grunt and squeak and squawk with the animals,
And they could squeak and squawk and speak and talk to us.

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." Genesis 1:26

Parenting Advice

I have a dear friend and Bible teacher who is always faithful to give good parenting advice. Recently, after a frightening health scare with her granddaughter, she reminded me that she never prays that the Lord take a trial away from her children but that He gives them what they need in the midst of the trial. It is a hard thing to do because as a parent your first inclination is always to want to remove anything from your child that hurts them but if you have developed a close walk with the Lord you realize that His love and provision throughout that trial will grow them in a way that has eternal rewards! From the book, Streams in the Desert by Mrs. Charles Cowan, you will see below that this is illustrated beautifully.

Many years ago there was a monk who needed olive oil, so he planted an olive tree sapling. After he finished planting it, he prayed, "Lord, my tree needs rain so its tender roots may drink and grow. Send gentle showers." And the Lord sent gentle showers. The monk prayed, "Lord, my tree needs sun. Please send it sun." And the sun shone, gilding the once dripping clouds. "Now send frost, dear Lord, to strengthen its branches," cried the monk. And soon the little tree was covered in sparkling frost, but by evening it had died.

Then the monk sought out a brother monk in his cell and told him of his strange experience. After hearing the story, the other monk said, "I also have planted a little tree. See how it is thriving! But I entrust my tree to its God. He who made it knows better that a man like me what it needs. I gave God no constraints or conditions, except to pray, 'Lord, send what it needs--whether that be a storm or sunshine, wind, rain, or frost. You made it, and you know best what it needs.'"

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ" Ephesians 1:3

For the Birds

Today, Tony and I took a little road trip to visit a couple of family cemeteries for our research on our ancestry and along the way we stopped for a little shopping at the Bellville Market Day. It was a warm Texas day and I was focused on one particular purchase. But before I move on to that I have to say that in the shade was a country and western band playing and some young girls dancing with each other. It was a classic Texas Saturday afternoon sight and I didn't have my camera ready to catch it! But I had the pleasure of experiencing the moment - it reminded me of what makes this country great!

My purchase was a white church birdhouse! It is handcrafted from old barn wood and the roof is made with old ceiling tin! Thanks Tony for happily carrying it back to the car!

So who said a birdhouse has to be for the birds... Not yet any way!

"Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds!"
Luke 12:24
